Jay Brannan Finds Love In An Elevator With New Video For "Rob Me Blind;" U.S. Tour Starts July 18 In Boston

"Rob Me Blind is a labor of love that reflects [Jay's] growth as an artist, and his desire to take new chances." – The Huffington Post

“[David] Kahne has harnessed Brannan’s obvious natural talents, and instead of just rolling out another modern folk record, the two have toyed with tempo, clever arrangements and thematic variety to produce an honest, informal and sometimes amusing collection of songs.” – musicOMH (UK)

Just a few weeks before the U.S. leg of his world tour begins, Jay Brannan has unveiled a new video for the title track of his latest album, Rob Me Blind. The video premiered yesterday on AOL’s Spinner.com.

Jay tells Spinner.com, "I'm way too shy to ever approach anyone on the street, on the subway, in an elevator or even at a bar. So it was fun to make a video involving chemistry-at-first-sight, where the characters didn't just end up going home to check the 'missed connections' listings on Craigslist."

Since the release of his sophomore full-length album Rob Me Blind, Jay has been touring the world, from the UK to Germany to Israel to Australia. His 28-date U.S. tour will begin on Wednesday, July 18th in Boston and wrap in his home city of New York on Saturday, August 25th. Jay took this opportunity to put together an anti-Valentine’s Day playlist of some of his favorite anti-love songs from his favorite decade of music, the 90s. Says Jay, “It's not all candy, flowers, & hearts for some of us (most of us, even?), and I'm pretty sure the last time I had a valentine was in high school (and it probably ended badly before the final bell even rang). So I put together a list of my favorite '90s anti-Valentine's Day songs that are not only still awesome for a lonely, single February day in 2012, but way beyond.”

Jay Brannan To Release 'Rob Me Blind' March 27; NYMag.com Premieres New Video For Single "Beautifully"

New York-based singer/songwriter Jay Brannan returns with sophomore full-length album Rob Me Blind on March 27, 2012. Jay released his critically lauded debut album goddamned in 2008, but first gained attention with his role in John Cameron Mitchell’s 2006 indie film Shortbus, where he performed his original song, “Soda Shop.”

For his sophomore effort, Jay teams up with Grammy-winning producer David Kahne (Regina Spektor, Paul McCartney, The Bangles), who brings instrumental textures to Jay’s songwriting, hinting at a slightly new direction for the minimalist artist while maintaining the signature qualities of a Jay Brannan album: brutal honesty, sharp wit, and sparkling melodies. Lyrically, the album follows the singer through states of loneliness, anger, rejection, and yearning, while somehow offering a glimpse of hope and self-acceptance.

The first single from the 10-track album, “Beautifully” (out now in iTunes), showcases Jay’s talent for storytelling as he recounts the saga of someone falling for a close friend whose attraction lies only in the realm of the platonic. A new video for the track (directed by Grant Carden & Dillon Magrann-Wells) premiered yesterday on NYMag.com (here).
