New Signing: Boxed In (Plus Free Download!)

"One of the most pleasing, satisfying aspects of the current psychedelic resurgence... One part Neu! beat, one part Syd Barrett vision." – Clash

"Crisp piano and meaty bass meander around a tight motorik rhythm. It's exciting stuff." – The Line Of Best Fit

"Forlorn and frantic, like Neu! chasing New Order across the beach in Ibiza at 4am."
The Guardian

Having cut his teeth in much-touted Manchester band Keith, Oli Bayston has more recently been acquiring production credits alongside Dan Carey (Steve Mason and Toy), playing keyboards for the likes of Willy Mason and putting his accomplished song-writing talents on display for The 2 Bears, George Fitzgerald and Rosie Lowe.

Now, under the Francis Bacon inspired moniker Boxed In - the name is loosely derived from Bacon’s infamous Head VI, once described as “the operation through which the entire body escapes through the mouth” - he has stepped into the spotlight to reveal his immaculately produced, energetic sound and signed to Nettwerk for his debut release, due out later this year. A new song, “No Joke,” from the forthcoming album debuted earlier this week on UK blog The Line Of Best Fit.

Filmed by a photographer friend on a recent shoot in India with Jurgen Teller, the “No Joke” video features 'The Kolcata Laughing Society' on one of their uplifting morning 'routines'. After a quick edit, it was set to the glitchy piano and smooth, sophisticated vocals of Bayston's first solo offering.
