Run River North Premiere New Video For Single “Fight To Keep” On Teamcoco.Com

Newcomers Run River North (formerly Monsters Calling Home) have unveiled their first official, not to mention hilariously gory video from their upcoming self-titled debut, out February 25. The “Fight To Keep” video premiered yesterday on TeamCoco.com, who described it as “equal parts mandolin riffs and ‘The Hunger Games.’” Directed by Zack Stoltz, the video features actor/comedian Diedrich Bader and the six-piece band on an innocent camping trip turned Battle Royale.

On Saturday, January 25, Run River North will be included in Lexus: Music Uncovered, a pre-Grammy® special exploring Los Angeles hot spots and up and coming bands airing on CBS at various times in 10 major markets (Los Angeles, New York, Boston, Chicago, Philadelphia, Dallas, Miami, San Francisco, Houston and DC). The band was also recently featured on Last Call With Carson Daly, PBS Artbound and NPR Weekend Edition, where they discussed various themes of hope, struggle and identity reflected on their debut album – all band members come from families who moved to Southern California from Asia, which creates a subtle overlap of Asian and American folk reflecting the hyphenated existence of the band members.

Recorded with renowned record producer Phil Ek (Band Of Horses, Fleet Foxes, Built To Spill, The Shins), Run River North burgeons with richly layered harmonies, dynamic instrumentation and evocative storytelling. The somber track “Lying Beast” is based on a melody from an ancient Korean folk song about unrequited love between a couple on a mountain pass. The song “Monsters Calling Home” is about immigrant parents and the hardships of “digging for worth under a foreign sun.” On “Growing Up” acoustic strums comingle with sweeping violins, as the chorus calls out with gentle urgency.

Prior to joining Nettwerk and with only a 6-song demo, the band had already garnered a Jimmy Kimmel Live! performance, been shortlisted at Cannes Film Festival, performed at the Grammy Museum for its members, sold out LA’s famed Troubadour and garnered over 1.5 million YouTube views.

Run River North is Alex Hwang (lead vocals, guitars), Daniel Chae (vocals, strings), Jennifer Rim (strings), Joe Chun (bass, vocals), John Chong (drums, vocals) and Sally Kang (vocals, keyboards). The band is currently on a small run of tour dates with Moon Taxi. More tour dates will be announced in the coming weeks.
