Datarock Returns To The US For October Dates
Norwegian tongue-in-cheek electronic/dance band Datarock will return to the States for a handful of October dates in Chicago, San Francisco, Los Angeles and New York City (full list of dates below).
Dressed in matching red tracksuits, Datarock were one of several groups labeled by the UK press as "new rave" back in 2006, combining inspiration from Devo, Talking Heads, and Happy Mondays. For the past decade, the band have melded indie dance, new wave, pop, punk and funk into a custom sound responsible for a steady stream of unforgettable tracks and performances. They've done everything from tearing the roof off Coachella to appearing on Yo Gabba Gabba, and now the band returns with an EP called "California," featuring 5 tracks from their forthcoming project, DATAROCK - the musical. Originating from the same Bergen scene as Röyksopp and the Kings of Convenience, Datarock formed in 2000. The first Datarock release arrived as a split EP with Stockhaus in 2001 on the label Tellé, the original outlet for Röyksopp, the Kings of Convenience, and Annie. In 2002 they issued a limited-edition EP titled 'Demo/Greatest Hits' on Kaptein Kaliber Records. This was followed in 2003 by the 'Computer Camp Love' EP. For the first full album, DATAROCK formed their own label, Young Aspiring Professionals, and in 2005 released Datarock Datarock. The following year the album was reissued in the U.K., France, and Australia. In early 2007, Datarock inked a deal with Nettwerk, where they released their 2009 second coming, the album Red.
Early 2011 saw DATAROCK team up with San Francisco based toy company SUPER7 and the release of a DATAROCK designer toy labeled "the most extravagant single in history" featuring "Catcher in the Rye" and more than 110 bonus tracks, 23 music videos, 1500 photos and 60 minutes concert film named after the famous Goonies quote, "Never Say Die."
