Victoria, B.C.-based Current Swell partners with CMT.com to reveal the official music video for “I Want A Bird” from their recent release, Long Time Ago (via Nettwerk Records).
Directed by Leah Nelson, Partner at production company Giant Ant (Nintendo, PBS, NBA, Target), the video is bright and playful, overlaid with animation while the band plays instruments made of paper.
The roots rock band started with modest expectations, playing shows in settings that ranged from backyards to beaches and using social media to grow their audience. Since then, they have supported artists like Dispatch, Xavier Rudd, K’Naan, K-OS, The Beach Boys, The Tragically Hip and more. Through the years of constant touring and slow but steady build of momentum, Current Swell—Scott Stanton (vocals/guitar), David Lang (vocals/guitar), Ghosty Boy (bass) and Chris Petersen (drums)—have continuously grown as songwriters and live performers, while keeping their sound authentic to who they are as individuals and as a unit.

“’Leave Behind Your Ego’ is a propulsive, full-bodied space journey”
– Scripps Howard News Service
Dutch-born musician, remixer and producer Junkie XL (Tom Holkenborg) shares the official music video for standout track “Leave Behind Your Ego” (featuring spoken word by Timothy Leary).
Directed by John Christopher Pina (Kanye West, John Legend, Seal, Common), the video is perfectly paired with the blistering synth swells of Holkenborg’s 808. Featuring excerpts of Leary’s spoken word, the video is “carefully constructed sound meets meticulously chosen imagery in illuminating the haunting words of Leary through a transmigration from the walls and pathways of ever-present modern technology, down through the mirror of chaos in man-made structures, and through to the abstract serenity of nature,” says Pina.

Iconic frontman Peter Murphy has announced the Mr. Moonlight Tour, celebrating 35 years of Bauhaus. Murphy, who has started working with producer Youth (Killing Joke, The Verve) on the follow up to his 2011 critically acclaimed solo effort, NINTH (Nettwerk), will spend three months touring North America and Europe with a full band performing only Bauhaus material.
Says Peter, “Since 2006, I have included my Bauhaus work into my solo work as a way of tipping my hat to my own audience…those who discovered my early work as well as new and old fans of those years strong wishes to hear the music of my band crackle and spark in the live arena. Being the foremost advocate of this Bauhaus work, I decided the time was ripe to at last give a pure Bauhaus experience in one Mr. Moonlight world tour. Mr. Moonlight is alive and well, don't doubt it.”
Bauhaus formed in 1978 and achieved worldwide cult status that continues to this day. As the main man of the acclaimed outfit, Peter Murphy helped usher in ground breaking opaque moods and atmospheres into the post-punk landscape. Bauhaus originally split in 1983, but eventually bowed to public pressure to reform in 1998 and again in 2005. The Mr. Moonlight Tour will be the first time since 2006 that Peter Murphy will perform full Bauhaus sets, and the first time ever that he will do so on his own.
"BOY writes and sings tuneful, friendly, forthright pop-folk songs about life and relationships...The lyrics are in idiomatic American English, cradled by melodies with a comfortable lilt and by Ms. Steiner’s sweet, unfailingly precise lead vocals….Boy brings a pastry chef’s skill to its music; there’s structure behind the sweetness." -- The New York Times (Live Review)
“This band’s about to go pop!” – NylonMag.com
“Great pop songs are boiled-down emotion – a simple line or melody that says it all...Swiss-German duo BOY nails it with viral hit ‘Little Numbers’...simple, catchy, effective.” -- Billboard Magazine
“The duo BOY...pound out bouncy melodies and hand-clap their way through the addictive Mutual Friends.” – Cosmopolitan
“breezy, relatable indie-pop songs...” – Alternative Press
“The debut effort put forth by this Hamburg-based duo is as bubbly and rosy-cheeked as any playful kid...Attaboy!” – Filter Magazine
“I predict a mainstream takeover.” – TheWildHoneypie.com
Hamburg-based duo BOY has finally landed Stateside. Nettwerk Music Group is pleased to announce the signing of Australia’s The Paper Kites to its North American label roster.
With their debut EP Woodland and follow-up EP Young North, Australian indie-folk outfit The Paper Kites melds earthy instrumentals to create a perfect backdrop for the band’s harmonies. The standout tracks from Woodland - “Bloom” and “Featherstone” (as prominently featured in the season 8 finale of Grey’s Anatomy) - have generated over 5 million combined YouTube views.
“Up until recently we never expected much of a response (from our recordings) outside of Melbourne, let alone the other side of the world, so when we were approached by Nettwerk, we were certainly surprised!” says bandmember Sam Rasmussen. “We are currently plotting out the next year and beyond. We look forward to sharing the album with the world and couldn't be happier about our new partnership with Nettwerk.” Sharing the same enthusiasm, Terry McBride, CEO of Nettwerk Music Group, continues, “I hum their music constantly, so happy to have a part in spreading this inspiring music.”
The band began with Sam Bentley and Christina Lacy playing local cafes in their hometown of Melbourne, Australia. When invited to play a local festival, they decided it was time to expand by adding David Powys, Sam Rasmussen and cousin Josh Bentley. “Sam and I worked together in a warehouse, Josh was my cousin and I liked his drumming…we liked David because he could sing and were big fans of his other band. It was never really an official ‘let’s start a band’ conversation, we just kind of fell into it,” says Bentley.
