Katzenjammer Stops By Out.com In New York For A Performance And Interview

The ladies of Katzenjammer stopped by the Out studio when they were in New York City a couple weeks ago for an interview and acoustic performance of "Ain't No Thang" from their recently released debut Le Pop.

Says Out.com:
Katzenjammer is a wonderfully bewildering, joyous band that hails from Norway. Anne Marit Bergheim, Marianne Sveen, Solveig Heilo and Turid Jørgensen take turns playing 29 instruments (and I wouldn't be surprised if they had added more to their roster since I met them a few weeks ago) to create a riotous mix of pop, gypsy folk, blue grass, and rock all topped off with a heavy helping of madcap circusy moments.

The band recently stopped by the Out studio to chat about their love of bizarre instruments, the difference in reactions from fans from different parts of the world, and why being an all-women band has its advantages.

Check out their stripped performance of "Ain't No Thang" above, and visit Out.com HERE for the rest of the interview.

Katzenjammer Release Debut Album 'Le Pop' This Week; On Tour Now!

Katzenjammer's North American debut Le Pop has finally arrived; check out what some critics have said:

"It’s sometimes easy to forget the many permutations of pop music that don’t involve Justin Bieber and/or Auto-Tune. Take “Le Pop,’’ for instance: a topsy-turvy romp through Balkan folk, rockabilly, cabaret and carnival tunes, the first album from the Norwegian all-female quartet Katzenjammer is also often, unexpectedly, as catchy as anything on Top 40 radio. From the frenetic, fanfare-filled opening moments of “A Bar in Amsterdam,’’ these giddy gals waste no time trying to win over listeners with their quirky, high-energy gypsy-rock." -- Boston Globe

"Katzenjammer, the latest pop curiosity to blow in from Scandinavia, comes running out of its debut CD with a real screamer." -- Chicago Sun Times

The Katzenjammer ladies are currently on tour in support of the album. Be sure to catch their raucous live show in your city (dates below).  Check out the above live video of "A Bar In Amsterdam," shot at Rockefeller Music Hall in Oslo, Norway, to get a glimpse of the antics.

"They can bring a house down with a rousing set... and their musical chops are undeniable." - PopMatters

The bugle call that signals the entrance of the all-female quartet Katzenjammer onto the Norwegian stage, and now the international music scene, stems from the band’s first hit single, the whirlwind song called “A Bar in Amsterdam.”

Katzenjammer Brings Their Musical Mayhem To North America With Debut 'Le Pop' Out May 4

“Four ladies who thrash banjos, pluck fiddles, and bang marching drums, garbage cans, and cookie jars (!) like Appalachian witches drunk on White Lightning.”

Norwegian all-female foursome Katzenjammer are set to release their debut album Le Pop in North America on May 4, 2010, with their new single “Tea With Cinnamon” out March 2.

Le Pop, which was produced by Kåre Westrheim and Mike Hartung (known for their work with notable Norwegian artists Marit Larsen and Superfamily), showcases the ladies eclectic blend of genres, which one Norwegian reviewer described as ”a mix between Eastern European folk music, B-52s, the sisters Kate & Anna McGarrigle, seasick bluegrass, country blues and a carnival orchestra on the run.” Le Pop not only earned Katzenjammer a nomination for “Newcomer of the Year” at the Norwegian Grammy Awards, but also the distinct honor of opening the show with their hit single “A Bar In Amsterdam.”
