Dutch-born musician, remixer and producer Junkie XL (Tom Holkenborg) shares the official music video for standout track “Leave Behind Your Ego” (featuring spoken word by Timothy Leary).
Directed by John Christopher Pina (Kanye West, John Legend, Seal, Common), the video is perfectly paired with the blistering synth swells of Holkenborg’s 808. Featuring excerpts of Leary’s spoken word, the video is “carefully constructed sound meets meticulously chosen imagery in illuminating the haunting words of Leary through a transmigration from the walls and pathways of ever-present modern technology, down through the mirror of chaos in man-made structures, and through to the abstract serenity of nature,” says Pina.
Hi-def gets dialed down low for Junkie XL's video for electro-anthem "Gloria" (featuring DATAROCK) which makes its debut today at Youtube.com/JunkieXLOfficial. Directed by John Christopher Pina (KanyeWest, JohnLegend, Seal, Common) and produced by CleanSweep, the video is a flashback to a 1990’s sitcom—authentic down to low grade video, Guess cut off jean shorts and a Chevy convertible--where a young student fantasizes a far more 'smooth and refined' version of himself for the perfect weekend escape with the girl of his dreams. It features a cameo from Junkie XL as a high-school teacher.
“Gloria” appears on Junkie XL’s (Tom Holkenborg) new album Synthesized, set for release on November 27 via Nettwerk Records. This is his first album in four years and the sixth full-length LP in his 15-year career. Other cuts on the album include “OffTheDancefloor,” “LoveMachine” (a track he produced with TommieSunshine) and “Synthesized.”

Dutch-born musician, remixer and producer Junkie XL (aka Tom Holkenborg) works with Oscar-winning film composer, Hans Zimmer, on the latest Batman film, Dark Knight Rises. Included on the soundtrack is a Junkie XL remix of musical cue, “Bombers Over Ibiza.” To listen to the remix, see above.
This is not the first time the two have worked together. Since 2010, Zimmer has enlisted the talents of Holkenborg on several films – Inception, Madagascar 3, Megamind – as well as other musical projects, including this year’s remix of the The Academy Awards® theme song.
Other composers who have worked with Zimmer – John Powell (Rio, the Bourne series, Mr.. & Mrs. Smith) and Harry Gregson-Williams (Shrek) - later made the ultimate step towards their own big Hollywood scores.
Speaking on the collalboration, Holkenborg says, "signing up for one of the biggest Hollywood film series is a dream of mine. Hans began with Rain Man in the '80s and has composed music for a hundred-plus films. For me, he is not only a friend and colleague, but a living legend and a true mentor. It is both an education and inspiration to work with Hans, day in and day out."
In 2012, Junkie XL (aka Tom Holkenborg) is gearing up to release his first studio album in four years; first since 2008’s Booming Back To You. The Dutch-born, California-based producer and remixer set the tone with last year’s teaser track, “Molly’s E.” Today, Holkenborg offers up a remix of another track from the album, “Off The Dancefloor.”
Better known for their performance art (eggs, glitter, feather bombs, mud, liquid latex, spaghetti) Tokyo’s electropop band, TRIPPPLE NIPPPLES, renders it anew with their stylized tweaks. TRIPPPLE NIPPPLES put together a teaser video to accompany the remix, you can watch it above.
On a side note, Holkenborg collaborated with Hans Zimmer to remix the theme song to the The Academy Awards®. Holkenborg is the first Dutch electronic dance music producer involved in the awards.
Today, Junkie XL (aka Tom Holkenborg) releases a new single EP for the track “Molly’s E” via Nettwerk Records. “Molly’s E” is the lead single from the Dutch-born musician, remixer and producer’s forthcoming studio album, set to drop in 2012. The EP features the original track, along with remixes from Azari & III and Canblaster.
Azari & III is the Toronto based house quintet who is building momentum with already classic tracks like: "Hungry For The Power", "Reckless With Your Love" and the new single off the long player Into The Night (August 8). Canblaster is a young French based producer and part of the über-cool Club Cheval collective.
