It is with great pride that we announce the Great Lake Swimmers have made the “Short List” of nominees for the 2009 Polaris Music Prize. The band joins an esteemed group of musicians in this year’s nominees and past, as they are nominated for their fourth album LOST CHANNELS. Past nominees include Arcade Fire, Metric, Feist and Broken Social Scene.

The nomination is the latest acknowledgment in the ever-growing acclaim for LOST CHANNELS. “It's a thrill to be nominated, and recognized for all the work we've put into this over the last year. It's also great to be in such amazing company on the short list. We're very excited to be a part of it,” said lead singer and songwriter Tony Dekker.

The Great Lake Swimmers front man Tony Dekker recently stopped by 30 Rock in NYC for a very special sit down with NBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams to tape an interview for his much buzzed about video blog BriTunes.

The two sat down in the music editing room for Saturday Night Live, where they had a chance to chat about musical influences and the new album Lost Channels.

MSNBC is hosting the full album stream and Legion Session videos including the debut of the latest session track "Stealing Tomorrow".

During a recent visit to the iTunes Live studios, the Great Lake Swimmers cut a seven-song set, exposing new colors for "Your Rocky Spine" and "I Am Part Of A Large Family" and adding a live heartbeat to the new songs "Pulling On A Line," "She Comes To Me In Dreams," and "Concrete Heart." NBC News anchor Brian Williams has been know for years as a trusted voice in the world of nightly news events, but only recently has he started to make a name for himself in a very different field.. indie rock.  As recently chronicled in an interview with Rolling Stone, the 37 year old anchor has started his own weekly online blog, aptly titled 'BriTunes.'

And in two recent episodes of one of the hottest new blog shows to hit the cyber world, the newsman shows that he has excellent taste, shouting out both Great Lake Swimmers and Howling Bells in succedding episodes.

The Great Lake Swimmers continue to reach fantastic new heights, proving to be one of the early sleeper hits of the year and a must hear from critics nationwide.

This week, the band’s latest release, Lost Channels, stormed back on to the Billboard Heatseekers Chart to land at #9, more than a month after it’s release on March 31st. The sales success comes on the back of an extremely impressive showing on Amazon, reaching #1 MP3 sales position for over 3 days straight. In Canada, the band has held steady in the Top 200 since release day 5 weeks ago.

The band are currently playing to sold out audiences across Europe and the UK. This summer will include main stage appearances at Folk Festivals across Canada with a full US routing in the works for August / September.

During the month of February 2009, while the city of Toronto was busy battling against the wind, snow and all around miserable conditions that keep residents firmly indoors as often as possible, the Great Lake Swimmers decided to hunker down in one of their country's most esteemed locations, a Royal Canadian Legion Pub.

Soon dubbed "The Legion Sessions", GLS chose the hallowed local in-which to capture live, many of the new songs from their freshly minted new album Lost Channels.

The group enlisted the help of gifted young director Scott Cudmore to create a raw and intimate window into the subtle power of the group's sound. On board capturing the music resonating within these cozy surroundings was none other than Graham Walsh from the experimental electronic group Holy F**k.

Great Lake Swimmers continue to reach new heights as their latest album Lost Channels, debuts at #10 on the Billboard Heatseekers Chart in America and #48 on Canada’s Top 200 Album Chart.

The album is also drawing impressive numbers on iTunes, currently sitting at #1 in Canada #5 in America on the Singers/Songwriter charts.
